Non–Specific Urethritis

What is it? This is a bacterial infection of the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder.

Causes: It may be caused by several different bacteria, often those normally present in the genitals, anus, and mouth which then infect the urethra.

How can I catch it? Transmission is by unprotected sex, although an infection may be triggered by other non–sexual factors such as an allergic reaction.

Symptoms: Include a painful burning sensation when urinating and sometimes a discharge may occur.

How can I treat it? It is easily treated with antibiotics.
