Corpus LGBT+

Corpus has a kind, inclusive, and welcoming LGBT+ community that reflects Corpus’ overall friendly attitude. We pride ourselves on fostering inter-year friendships and valuing inclusivity above all else. Events are regularly run in college to give the “Corpus Gay Collective” an opportunity to meet up. The event run most regularly is pre-drinks on Tuesday evenings for Cambridge’s gay club night, but if that’s not your thing, there are lots of other things on offer- check the LGBT+ socials page for more information.

The JCR and MCR both have their own LGBT+ officers whose job is to support the community in whatever way they can. Follow “this link” to find information on the current JCR LGBT+ officer.

The Facebook Page

Corpus LGBT+ has its own Facebook page, managed by the JCR and and MCR LGBT+ officers. Other people on the page can see who’s on it, but the college population in general can’t. An invite is sent out at the beginning of the year for anybody who wants to be added, and you can also get in touch with the LGBT+ officer if you’d like to be added at a different time during the year. The page is regularly updated with information about events like socials and swaps happening in and out of college (check the LGBT+ socials page for more information about what’s on offer!).

Welfare

If you ever feel the need to talk to someone, in complete confidence, concerning anything from relationships to coming out, feel free to get in touch with the JCR LGBT+ Officer. The JCR LGBT+ Officer will deal with anything you tell them sensitively and appropriately, in complete confidence. If you would prefer, you can contact the JCR LGBT+ Officer, and the JCR Welfare Officers anonymously using the Welfare Contact system. You should never feel apprehensive about contacting any of the Welfare Officers; they’re elected largely on how approachable they are, and ran for the roles because they want to help people who need it. CSU also has its own set of LGBT+ Welfare Reps, if you would like to speak to someone outside of College.

Gender Expression Fund

As of 2021, Corpus JCR has within its budget a Gender Expression Fund for any students exploring and/or validating their gender. This fund aims to promote the comfort and inclusivity of trans and GNC students throughout their degree, and can be accessed directly by contacting the LGBTQ+ Officer or the Gender Equalities Officer. It can be used for purchasing clothing, gender-confirming prosthetics, accessories, makeup, and for procedures not otherwise covered by college and university funds.
