Candidiasis (Thrush)

This is not technically an STI, but it may be transmitted sexually so it’s been included here.

Causes: Candidiasis is caused by overgrowth of yeast that live naturally on the skin. This occurs spontaneously in many women (thrush) following stress or other triggers, but can be transmitted sexually to cause a yeast infection in their partner.

Symptoms: Include a pain in the affected skin and a whitey grey discharge. These are easily treated with special ointments such as Canesten.
