The 2022 JCR Committee
Welcome!
Continue scrolling to meet the Officers on the 2022 JCR Committee! Feel free to contact them, if you are a current, previous or prospective undergraduate, about any concerns that you may have :)
President: Jamie Charles
Hey, my name is Jamie (she/her) and I’m the JCR Prez for 2022. In this role I’ll chair the open meetings (which you should definitely attend) as well as the committee meetings. I intend to represent student interests and concerns to college, and work alongside my amazing VP on student welfare. Aside from my JCR role, I’m a second year PBSer, proud feminist, mental health advocate and working-class student. Please do get in touch if you want to chat about anything!
Vice President: George Stokes
Hi! I’m George (he/him), I’m a third year hispol and I’m the JCR VP. I’ll be helping our wonderful prez to represent your interests on college committees. I also work closely with our fab welfare and liberation teams and chair fortnightly meetings with tutorial and the Senior Tutor. I'm also responsible for running the room ballot. Please get in touch by Facebook or email if I can help with anything!
Treasurer: James O’Garro
Hey! I’m James (he/him) and I’m a second year NatSci studying Chemistry and Physics from Leeds. As your JCR Treasurer, I oversee the finances of the committee and ensure that all the undergraduate societies and events are fully funded. If you have any questions or requests for the funding of any events or societies, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Secretary: Jacob Hougie
Hi, I’m Jacob (he/him) and I’m a First Year HSPS student and your JCR Secretary. My role is mainly to write minutes of all JCR Meetings to make sure that you can all see what the JCR is up to and keep JCR democracy functioning, but you’ll probably know me best as the person who send out the puzzle-laden Corporeal Newsletter on Sundays.
Academic and Access: James Walker
Hi there! I’m James (he/him), a second-year Historian from Scotland. As Access Officer, I get people involved in access events running throughout the year, and co-ordinate with the Student Liaisons Officer (and his dog!!) to improve access at Corpus. As someone from a working-class background who has benefitted enormously from access opportunities (especially the Bridging Course!), I’m aware of how important widening participation is. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to contact me!
Sports and Societies: Matthew Wadey
I am Matthew (he/him) and I’m a first year Architecture Student and your Sports and Socs Rep. This means that I represent extracurricular clubs and societies within the college and to the JCR and work with the JCR, College and Societies to let you have an enjoyable and enriching time. Please reach out if you have questions about joining/running existing societies and those you want to create or resurrect. When I’m not stressing over studio work, I can generally be found making music, or building things at the ADC.
Computing: Dylan Mankin
Hi all! I’m Dylan (he/him) and I’m a second year Computer Scientists and this year’s Computing Officer! I’m responsible for maintaining the JCR’s websites and other systems. I can also help with any tech related queries so do reach out if you need any help, or if you just want to chat about rowing!
Green: Kitty Joyce
Hi everyone! I’m Kitty (she/her), a first year PhysNatSci and JCR Green Officer. I mainly act as a go-between for students to get their ideas on sustainability through to the college, so if you have something you think we could improve, I’m always an email away. I’ll hopefully also be running some eco events this year (COVID permitting), so keep an eye out for those! When I’m not thinking about recycling bins, you can usually find me making music of some kind, or otherwise making regrettably slow progress on my supervision work.
Catering, Accommodation and Facilities: Yifei Zheng
Hello! My name is Yifei Zheng (he/him) and I am a second year History student. I have the privilege of attempting to succeed George as your new JCR Catering, Accommodation and Facilities Officer. My remit is bound to bound. I take care of all your queries/suggestions/concerns about Hall food, and the organisation of formals. I also help liaise with the Maintenance Team over any accommodation issues and the booking of camp beds. Finally, if you or your peer-mates have any questions about JCR facilities, such as pool cue replacements, please direct those my way!
Welfare: Vasilisa Grachova
Hi everyone, I’m Vasilisa (she/they) and I’m a second year studying HSPS! In my role as welfare officer, I will be your representative, your advocate for mental health, your friend, and a shoulder to cry on, all rolled into one. I want to create easier access to welfare and mental health resources for every Corpuscle so please reach out at any moment with questions and inquires or even for just a chat! You can rely on me to provide advice, sign-posting, welfare supplies and endless Par-TEAs to suit all of your needs so you can thrive in 2022. (jcr-welfare1@corpus.cam.ac.uk)
Welfare: Ben Palmer-Welch
Hiya! I’m Ben (he/him), a second-year Linguistics student, and one of your new JCR Welfare Officers. Years of experience have made me not only a Sexual Health Expert, but also a trained worker in advocating for student mental health and encouraging discourse between all layers of the academic body to make workloads more manageable and studying as enjoyable as it can be. I try not to take life too seriously, and really emphasise the importance of having a good time and doing what makes you happy – always down for a chat and to remind you that you’re special, you’re loved, and everything’s going to be ok <3
Welfare: Keelan Shorten
Hey! My name’s Keelan (he/him), and I’m one of the JCR welfare officers. That means I work to improve student welfare and wellbeing at Corpus and am in contact with college on a variety of issues, while not procrastinating instead of doing my history degree. Please feel free to get in contact with me if you want a chat about anything.
Gender Equalities: Lucy Trusler
Hi, I’m Lucy (she/her), a second year PBS student and I am the Gender Equalities Officer! I have a strong affinity for intersectional feminism and want to ensure in my role that the gender identities of all members of college are celebrated. My focus is on collaborating with other welfare/liberation officers in the JCR to provide personalized support. I will also be distributing menstrual products and running Isherwood Agender; introducing a book/poetry group, discussion groups, films + arts and more. I love to crochet, and I also paint/draw/decorate canvases (just visit my room for evidence of this). If you ever need any support, feel free to contact me any time.
LGBTQ+: Emma Gibson
Hi! I’m Emma (they/she/he) and I’m a first-year English student! My role on the JCR is to represent and support all students who identify as LGBTQ+ (whether they be out, questioning or closeted!). I’ll be holding film nights, discussions and drop-ins amongst other things. I really want to strengthen the community at Corpus so if you have any suggestions, feel free to drop me an email. I’m also always available for a chat – no concern is too big or small.
Ethnic Minorities: Muhammad Mahmoud
Hey! I’m Muhammad (he/him), and I’m a first year Geography student here at Corpus Christi. I’m the current Ethnic Minorities Officer on the college JCR, and so I’m here to ensure Ethnic Minority students feel welcomed at the College. As part of my role, I’m responsible for running the annual Ethnic Minorities mentoring scheme, this is where Ethnic Minority freshers are paired with older Ethnic Minority students to support them throughout their transition into university. Away from College life, I’m an avid cyclist and enjoy watching football. If you have any questions do not hesitate to get in touch.
Disabled Students: Malachi Gee
Hi there! I’m Malachi (he/him) - a first-year Historian from Cornwall, and your Disabled Students Officer for this year. I’m neurodiverse and partially sighted, so I have a lot of personal experience and I’m here to help signpost you to the services that the college & university has. Feel free to contact me any time for any issues, no matter how trivial they may seem.
Entertainments: Gosia Szakowska
Hi! I’m Gosia (she/her) and I’m a 2nd year history and politics student but, more importantly, also your Ents officer this year! I’m in charge of organising slacks and other events which make Corpus a fun place to be (aside from work of course). Please contact me with any suggestions for events you would like to see in college or for help with organising some yourselves. I just want everyone to have a good time while they’re in college so help me make this possible.
International Students: Neve Baskar
Hey there! My name is Neve (she/her), and I am a first-year law student and your ISO for 2022. It is tough being a student at Cambridge, let alone an international one. So I’m here and available 24/7 for your concerns, problems, or even a chat to check in on your transition to Cambridge. I aim to host parteas, formals for international festivals, food-tasting events, movie nights - basically whatever you need. I will also be in charge of Early Arrivals International Freshers Week and aim to start the conversation about the inclusivity of international students in the Bridging Course. In my free time (I am a law student- so barely any), I love to box, dance in an unflattering manner, travel and explore new spots, or do absolutely nothing. I would be more than happy to answer any queries/concerns.
