The 2023 JCR Committee
Welcome!
Continue scrolling to meet the Officers on the 2023 JCR Committee! Feel free to contact them, if you are a current, previous or prospective undergraduate, about any concerns that you may have :)
President: Neve Baskar
Hey! I’m Neve Baskar (she/her), a second-year Law Student from Singapore. I decided to run for President of the JCR as I wanted to use this platform to focus on improving student welfare and widening participation at Corpus. I also want to be able to increase accessibility to information for both current and prospective students. It is truly remarkable how we, as students, can work with senior members of the college to make concrete changes to better student life. During my time off, I love having a good night out or doing absolutely nothing (they say there is no in-between for a law student). I’d be more than happy to hear from you - so do reach out if you want to chat about anything!
Vice President: Jacob Hougie
Hi, I'm Jacob (he/him) and I'm a Second Year HSPS student and the JCR Vice-President! I'll be your first port of call during the Room Ballot and Fresher's Week, but I also chair the Welfare Committee, with the Senior Tutor and Tutorial Office, as well as supporting the JCR President and committee. When I'm not distracted from the JCR by my degree, you'll might find me desperately trying to break an addiction to tea or quietly muttering a song that I've got stuck in my head! If there's any way I can help, please feel free to contact me via email or Facebook!
Treasurer: Oliver Law
Hi! I’m Oliver (he/him) and I’m a first year HSPS student from Leeds. As your JCR Treasurer, I will oversee the finances of the committee and ensure that all the undergraduate societies and events are fully funded. In my spare time, I am an avid collector of all manner of board games! If you ever have any questions or requests regarding the funding of events/societies, please get in touch.
Secretary: Daisy O’Connor
Hi! I’m Daisy (she/her), a first year law student and JCR Secretary for this year! My job is to keep the minutes of all JCR Meetings, and send out the weekly Corporeal Newsletter. I want to include as much as possible in the Corporeal, so if you have any societies/events going on, let me know! In my free time I like to play flute, watch films and plan travel adventures (like how I randomly ended up at a spy music concert in Berlin!) Feel free to get in contact with me with any questions 😃
Academic and Access: Jess Morrisey
Hi! I’m Jess (she/her) and this years access officer! I’m a third year bio NatSci but I self identify as a humanities student. I'm from a small town in Lancashire so I resonate with Coronation Street on a personal level. I actually used to make Chesney from Corries sandwiches so I'm well connected. If you’ve got any ideas or want to get involved with access send us a message- always down to have a chat over a brew!
Sports and Societies: Amit Ramakrishna Prasad
Hey! I'm Amit (he/him), and I'm a second year engineer and your new Sports and Societies Officer. I have a horrible habit of doing anything to avoid going to lectures, to the point of missing ¾ of Michaelmas term and I prefer to go out on caffeine instead of alcohol. I hope to make societies and sports more easily accessible and lead Corpus Cambridge to victory against O*ford in the Corpus challenge.
Computing: Dylan Mankin
Hi all! I’m Dylan (he/him) and I’m a third year Computer Scientists and this year’s Computing Officer! I’m responsible for maintaining the JCR’s websites and other systems. I can also help with any tech related queries so do reach out if you need any help, or if you just want to chat about rowing!
Green: Ryan Simpson
Hi! I’m Ryan Simpson (they/he) and I’m a third year Earthsci and this years Green Officer. I act as an intermediary between students and college, so if you have any ideas about sustainability or anything that you think we can improve, feel free to email me. I’ll also be helping to organise green week, and if possible, some additional similar events as well, so watch out for these.
Catering, Accommodation and Facilities: Yifei Zheng
My name is Yifei Zheng (he/him) and I am a third year History student. I am JCR Catering, Accommodation and Facilities Officer for this year. My remit is bound to bound. When I am not winning the email war against our Treasurer, I take care of all your queries/suggestions/concerns about Hall food. I also help liaise with the Maintenance Team over any accommodation issues and the booking of camp beds. Finally, if you or your peer-mates have any questions about JCR facilities, such as pool cue replacements, please direct those my way!
Welfare: James Walker
Hi!! I'm James (he/him), one of Corpus' new Welfare Officers :) I'm a third year historian from a little village in Scotland, and I have a golden retriever called Lady. My hobbies include procrastination and (re)watching Twilight and reading really bad fiction. As your new Welfare Officer, please feel free to come and chat to me about anything!! I'm here to be a friendly face and support y'all :))
Welfare: Julia Sinkinson
Hi, I’m Julia (she/her), a 3rd year geographer, and I’m one of the welfare officers! Fun facts about me are that I’m constantly talking about how much I miss my cat at when I’m at uni, in my opinion corpus brunch is the highlight of the week every week, and multiple times I have been caught pretending to do work in the taylor and actually playing moshi monsters. I hope to be a friendly face to everyone in college, I’ll bring the best selection of snacks to the parteas and keep the sexual health supplies well stocked, and I’m always up for a chat! :)
Welfare: Luke Tyler
Hey everyone, my names Luke (he/him) and I’m a second year lawyer. When I’m not lawyering, sleeping or at revs, I’ll be helping out with all things welfare - organising ParTeas, stocking up welfare supplies, chatting to anyone who wants to vent and more! Feel free to drop me a message if you fancy a chat about literally anything, chances are I’ll be procrastinating on my phone anyways :)
Gender Equalities: Maisie Johnson
Maisie (she/her) - A Swiftie and a Star Wars enthusiast!?! This gender equalities officer does it all. Apart from being dedicated to helping corpus take another step toward gender equality, I'm involved the Cambridge drama scene and corpus swim soc, and, occasionally, my degree. I've been told I'm "fairly approachable", I'm always up for a chat, please do not hesitate to give me a shout on Instagram or Facebook, or across New Court if you feel so inclined, about any of your gender related needs xxx
LGBTQ+: Harley Chidley
Hey guys, gals and non-binary pals - I’m Harley (they/them). I’m the LGBTQ+ Officer on the JCR as well as a 2nd year law student at Corpus, but I promise I’m a lot cooler than my course. Proof of which is seen in my impeccable style in which I have managed to pull off my infamous white crocs all around college, in every given scenario, almost always. I’m rarely caught not wearing them so I’m not that hard to miss. I even rocked them at a Robinson formal once… wasn’t my finest moment either. Apart from that, my favourite hobby is probably going to concerts - so far I’ve been fortunate enough to see Harry Styles, Mitski, Declan McKenna, Alfie Templeman, Sam Fender, Sam Smith, Lewis Capaldi and - possibly my biggest flex - Coldplay! On a more serious note, the reason I decided to run for this role is because Corpus is the first environment I’ve been enabled to authentically express my identity and felt welcomed to do so. Working as part of the Liberation team in the committee feels like an honour and a privilege where I can effectively give back to the community which has made me feel so safe and appreciated. Importantly, I hope to offer LGBTQ+ individuals spaces to hang out, have fun, and seek help if ever they need it :) Slay xoxo
Ethnic Minorities: Freddie Sehgal
I’m your Ethnic Minorities Officer and a third year theologian, but my name is Freddie (he/him). In my role I hope to make the celebration of cultures and religions a visible part of College life. I am also on hand to help with the concerns of any and all Ethnic Minority members of the JCR. In my spare time, I enjoy fiddling with the top of my nose piercing so that it comes a little bit out and then you can twist it around a bit and then put it back where it was. I am a passionate appreciator of Hindustani culture and music, and a hardcore Shri Jawaharlal Nehru stan. Currently, I’m working to establish a proof that the sesh, whatever form it may take, is a moral good. It is a bit wet but I think I really love Corpus and will do whatever I can for it in my own small (5’5) way.
Disabled Students: Claire Collins
I’m Claire [they/them], a finalist Engling and your DSO. Pictured is Tilly, my assistance dog, who will also be around to help. I’m hoping to improve general awareness in the college staff around accessibility as well as running support groups and socials, and doing some boggy behind the scenes stuff. Honestly the most fun thing about me is Tilly. In my free time I read German literature (yup, I’m that boring) and watch women’s football… but Tilly’s pretty cool! She likes long walks, naps and snacks — nothing if not a relatable
Entertainments: Neela Nee
Hiya, I’m Neela (she/her) a third year Law student and this year’s Ents Officer! I’m responsible for organising slacks, bar nights and other events to help you escape work for a little bit. Please let me know if you have any questions, suggestions for events or just feedback in general. Let’s boogie Corpus !!
International Students: Cosma Rubben
Hi there! My name is Cosma (she/her) and I am a third-year philosophy student and your international students officer this year! I am here to ensure that international students feel welcome at Corpus. I am responsible for running the international Freshers Week and I aim to host international parteas and festival formals. Please contact me with any suggestions for events or if you have any diversity and inclusivity concerns!
Class Act: Eleanor Lewis
Hiya! My name is Eleanor (she/her) and I’m the JCR class act officer this year. This means that I act as an advocate on the JCR for people from underrepresented backgrounds attending Corpus- this can be anything from attending a state school to being a care leaver, being a first-generation university student or coming from an area with a low progression to higher education. I’m a first year hspssy, a hard-water hater and play women’s rugby in my spare time. Please feel free to drop me an email if you need any advice or signposting to services that could help!
